Lynn Swann is another guy who is well-known for making some of the most memorable plays in NFL history, but simply did not accumulate the statistics to warrant a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He can arguably be considered the best example of the sort. After being selected in the opening round of the 1974 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Swann made some highly-memorable catches that came in big-time clutch situations. He winded up making an All-Pro First Team and also got two spots on Second Teams, but it’s obvious his enshrinement comes over the Super Bowl catches and rings.
The stats speak for themselves: 5,462 total yards receiving put him at 224th all-time, while the 336 career receptions don’t even crack the top 250. Swann never even came close to recording a single 1000+ yards receiving season.
