Cris Carter was not a first-ballot Hall of Famer for good reason. He was taken in the Supplemental Draft Pick from Ohio State by the Eagles, but it wasn’t til he wore a Vikings jersey when he got on his way to 3 All-Pro selections – two of them being First-Teamers. It always felt like he was over-hyped by the likes of people such as Chris Berman who loved saying “all he does is catch touchdowns” to Carter’s highlights.
Carter had a string of 1,000+ yard seasons, but most of his success seemed to come from being part of a pass-heavy offense that saw Randy Moss attracting most of the attention from defenses. Carter does place #12 in the all-time receiving yards category, but we see more reasons to NOT enshrine him. Terrell Owens agrees with us, as he famously said that Carter “begged his way into the Hall of Fame.”
