Vinny Testaverde took home the 1986 Heisman Trophy and was one win away from being a national champion that same year. The following spring he was taken with the #1 overall pick in the 1987 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Things went downhill quickly after that as his first season as an NFL starer went tragically. He had a completion percentage under 50 while throwing a ridiculous amount of interceptions – thirty-five to be exact. Though he would show improvement over the course of the next few years, he just didn’t live up to the expectations that were created for him.
After his time with the Bucs, he moved on to another unsuccessful campaign with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. It wasn’t until his 12th season in the NFL as a member of the 1998 New York Jets where he put an end to all the ‘bust’ talk by winning 12 of his 13 games. He threw 29 touchdowns that season with only 7 interceptions and had a stellar passer rating of 101.6. He took his team all the way to the AFC title game where his miraculous run was cut short by the eventual Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos led by John Elway.
