Martellus Bennett started his career in Dallas after the Cowboys drafted him in the second round of the 2008 draft. His size and athleticism made people think he’d be unguardable in an offense with a solid passing game. They were off by a mile. In his first four seasons with the team he couldn’t manage a single campaign where he totaled over 300 yards receiving.
But in 2011, while playing with the New York Giants, Bennett broke out. He hauled in 600+ yards and 5 touchdowns in 16 starts that year. The following season saw him in a Chicago Bears uniform where he continued his rise above the ‘bust’ label. He became a top tier tight end in 2014 when he totaled over 900 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Bennett continued his journey in New England, where he became part of a deadly dual-tight end formation with superstar Rob Gronkowski. Bennett immediately became one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets. He has put those first four disappointing seasons with Dallas in the rear view mirror, and done so in spectacular fashion.
